Permissive eFiling Status: At this time, eFiling is permissive and not required for all litigants in Colusa County Superior Court. This differs from many California counties where eFiling is mandatory for represented parties.

Colusa County-Specific Requirements

Copy Requirements for Physical Filing: When filing documents in person or by mail (not electronically), Colusa County requires the original plus 2 copies of all documents presented for filing.

Handwritten Documents: The court will accept handwritten pleadings that are neat and legible in blue or black ink from pro per litigants in family law and civil matters. The judicial officer and/or clerk's office have discretion to reject handwritten pleadings that are not neat or legible.

Exceptions to eFiling

Colusa County Documents That Cannot Be eFiled

In addition to statewide exceptions under CRC 2.253, Colusa County prohibits electronic filing of the following documents:

  • Any will, codicil, or testamentary trust
  • Writs and Abstracts
  • Bond or undertaking
  • Subpoenaed documents
  • Financial institution documents, care facility documents, or escrow documents as defined under Probate Code § 2620 (submitted by conservators, guardians, or trustees)
  • California state vital records forms
  • Any documents with attachments/exhibits that cannot be accurately transmitted via electronic filing due to size or type
  • Trial exhibits
  • Documents lodged with the court provisionally under seal
  • Documents for cases under seal
  • Requests for copies
  • Requests for Administrative Records (CRC 10.500)
  • Any documents ordered by a Judicial Officer in court to be filed at the Clerk's Office
