Mandatory eFiling

Who must eFile: All attorneys in all case types. Self-represented parties are encouraged but not required to eFile.

Exceptions to Mandatory eFiling

In addition to statewide exceptions under CRC 2.253, Calaveras County prohibits electronic filing of the following documents:

  1. Any will, codicil, or testamentary trust
  2. Bond or undertaking
  3. Subpoenaed documents
  4. Financial institution documents, care facility documents, or escrow documents (per Probate Code § 2620) submitted by conservators, guardians, or trustees
  5. California state vital records forms
  6. Documents with attachments/exhibits that cannot be accurately transmitted via electronic filing due to size or type
  7. Documents typically submitted during proceedings (e.g., trial exhibits)
  8. Documents lodged with the court provisionally under seal
  9. Documents for cases under seal
  10. Labor Commissioner deposit of cash or check

Document Format Requirements

Beyond statewide searchable PDF requirements, Calaveras County specifies:

Paper Color Restrictions:

  • The court will not accept papers, documents, exhibits, or dividers on pink or yellow paper (except with leave of court)
  • Recommendation: Use blue ink for original signatures to distinguish from copies

Tentative Ruling System Requirements

For all Law and Motion matters, notices must include specific language:

Required Notice Language:

"Pursuant to Local Rule 3.3.7, the Court will make a tentative ruling on the merits of this matter by 2:00 p.m. the court day before the hearing. The complete text of the tentative ruling may be accessed on the Court's website or by calling 209-754-6285 and listening to the recorded tentative ruling. If you do not call all other parties and the Court by 4:00 p.m. the court day preceding the hearing, no hearing will be held and the tentative ruling shall become the ruling of the court."

Failure to include this language may be grounds for denial of the motion.

Cover Sheets and Addendums

  • Submit an 8½" × 11" envelope
  • Label must include:
    • Document title
    • Case number
    • The word "confidential" printed prominently

Proposed Orders:

  • Must contain no confidential information (will be filed in public portion of file)
